My TOP 5 Beauty Supplements

So, as a holistic nutritionist and formulator of organic skincare, in order to teach people how to have their best skin EVER, I always start with DIET FIRST! Getting the foods out that are highly inflammatory or allergenic such as dairy, wheat, and soy can make a huge impact on your overall health and an even bigger impact on the SKIN! While I’d love to see all my clients eating unprocessed, organic, clean food, I absolutely realize its hard to eat to make sure you are getting all the nutrients required to keep your body functioning at high performance and looking your best at whatever age you are at! That’s where HIGH QUALITY supplements can do a fantastic job and today I’ll focus on my top 5 for healthy, glowing skin.

Did you know your skin is the LAST to get nutrients from what you eat? That’s why we must eat a variety of nutrient dense foods to make sure we are feeding our skin from the inside out. Adding these in can also help immensely.

MY TOP 5!

1.) High Quality Multi-Vitamin– I’m not talking Centrum or some random drug-store brand that looks like it would be yummy to eat every day. I’m talking a FOOD based, organic brand with a variety of nutrients designed specifically for your age and gender group. Sometimes skin issues can be a result of a SINGLE nutrient and filling in that gap with a multi can be a miracle pill! For example, a Vitamin A deficiency can result in severe acne or that bumpy “chicken ” skin behind the arm. Low magnesium can cause allergies such as eczema, and low K2 can cause premature aging! My top multi-vitamins come from these companies: http://www.thesynergycompany.com, http://www.newchapter.com, http://www.megafood.com, and http://www.gardenoflife.com

2.) Collagen Peptides-As you probably know, collagen is the “firm mattress” under our skin which starts to break down as we hit our 30’s. While there is no shortage of skincare products that contain collagen promising plump, beautiful skin, the reality is that these do NOT work. Sorry, but collagen is too big of a molecule to fit through your skin to do anything at the dermal layer and produce more collagen. BUT we can build this from the INSIDE! There are so many foods out there that build up collagen (Vitamin C products are huge for this), but since I’m focusing on supps, my choice for building collagen is VITAL PROTEINS (www.vitalproteins.com.) “Taken daily, up to 12 weeks, clinical studies verify that regular intake of collagen improves the basic skin condition and structure. Studies have shown that taking collagen peptides showed a significant improvement in skin elasticity and skin moisture.” It is sourced from animals grazing on organic grasses and in their natural environment getting lots of sunshine! Happy cows= Happy Supplements=Happy ME!

3.) Omega 3 Fatty Acids! This one is so huge and I’m really glad to see more people waking up to fact of “no-fat” being NOT a good idea! Our skin cells are made up of mostly fat, along with our brain, and we can’t even get proper hormonal function without fats! With our skin, low fatty acid levels contribute to dry, inflamed skin with frequent blackheads or whiteheads rearing their ugly faces. It is crucial to skin repair, moisture and flexibility of our skin, and the biggest thing is, WE CAN ONLY GET THIS FROM OUR DIET!! Start including things like chia seeds, salmon, hempseeds, sesame seeds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, or marine algae and krill. My absolute FAVE supp for this is BLUE ICE FERMENTED COD LIVER OIL from http://www.greenpasture.org! It supplies Omega Fatty Acids ALONG with Vitamin A and D!

4.) Vitamin C– Ok, this might seem like a really boring one, BUT this vitamin taken consistently will help your skin and even your health in the long run. Most people’s adrenals today are revving top speed, and your adrenals use loads of Vitamin C to function properly, so don’t run out on C. Two observational studies found that higher intakes of vitamin C from the diet were associated with better skin appearance and with notable decreases in skin wrinkling. Vitamin C builds collagen! Again, this is a vitamin we need to consume so eating things like dark greens, peppers, broccoli, and of course the citrusy foods will deliver maximum C. The best types of supplemental C is again, WHOLE FOODS, not just a portion of C, like in ascorbic acid (even though that works GREAT topically on the skin). Superfoods like Camu Camu, Acerola, and Rosehips are great sources and my top pic for this is https://healthforce.com/longevity-immunity/truly-natural-vitamin-c.

5.) Hmmmm, so my last one I couldn’t decide between probiotics (which I’m sure everyone knows the link between gut and skin already), or an antioxidant blend which would be so good for skin as well. So I chose a product with a little bit of EVERYTHING! I believe greens, algaes, and herbs can detox and alkalize the body and therefore improve the skin, SO my last pick is really ANYTHING by this company – http://www.amazinggrass.com. The AMAZING MEAL is just that (amazing!), and the kids LOVE the chocolate kids product.

So, that’s it! The top 5 you would see in my kitchen cupboard. I hope you found this helpful in your supplement search!

I receive NO compensation from any of these companies. I simply LOVE to recommend products from companies that have people’s health first and foremost on their mission list!

“You are the architect of your day! Make it a MASTERPIECE!”
